Royal Address Sharpens Focus on Morocco’s Sahara Sovereignty

In response to the royal address commemorating the 49th anniversary of Morocco’s Green March, Member of Parliament for Driouch and lawyer with the Nador Bar, Abdelmounaim Fattahi, emphasized that the King’s speech sent an unmistakable message to those opposing Morocco’s legitimate right to integrate the Sahara region. Fattahi particularly noted the address’s pointed reference to Algeria and the international community, highlighting the need for a reassessment of long-standing positions that have lacked a solid foundation. The speech outlined clear expectations for constructive engagement, based on the principle of mutual benefit.

As the former coordinator of the Northern Region within the North-South Forum for Human Rights, Fattahi expressed that Morocco is moving decisively to resolve the fabricated conflict surrounding the Sahara. Under the King’s wise guidance, Morocco has swiftly garnered widespread international support, particularly from influential nations across various continents. This stance is evident in the growing recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty by countries such as the United States, France, and Spain, as well as the establishment of diplomatic missions and economic partnerships in the Moroccan Sahara by several nations.

The King’s address also underscored the urgency for unified efforts from all stakeholders, advocating a parallel diplomacy that complements official channels to apply pressure on international bodies. Fattahi called for action from every individual and organization in support of Morocco’s primary cause, affirming that the proposed autonomy framework offers the most feasible and fair solution to end the dispute.
