King’s Speech Ushers in a New Era for Managing Moroccan Diaspora Affairs

In his speech marking the Green March anniversary, King Mohammed VI announced a pivotal shift in the institutional management of the Moroccan diaspora, with a focus on strengthening the role of the Council for the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) as an advisory body. Additionally, the establishment of the new “Mohammed VI Foundation for Moroccans Abroad” was unveiled, signaling a new chapter in the relationship between Morocco and its global citizens.

The CCME, a constitutional body, will be further empowered through new legislation that will renew its structure and broaden its representation. The goal is to make the council a genuine platform for dialogue, debate, and policy proposals. In parallel, the newly formed Mohammed VI Foundation is expected to act as the executive arm of Morocco’s policies concerning its citizens abroad, effectively consolidating the responsibilities that were previously fragmented across various government entities.

This institutional overhaul reflects Morocco’s ambition to strengthen its bond with the diaspora, with the Mohammed VI Foundation serving not only as a bridge for cultural, linguistic, and spiritual engagement but also as a hub for coordinating efforts to mobilize Moroccan expertise overseas. With a renewed focus on economic investment, particularly through closer collaboration with regional investment centers and public banks, the foundation will play a key role in the strategic development of initiatives benefiting Moroccans abroad, ensuring they are better represented and supported in the years to come.
